In order to assess the students’ learning
during the thematic unit on communication, I will use the following measures of
evaluation.
Portfolio Assessment: At the beginning of the unit, each student
will receive a folder. Each student
will decorate this folder and will not be allowed to take it home. The students will put their completed
assignments in the folder and will organize them at the end of the unit to show
what progress was made during the course of the unit. Students’ portfolios will be assessed using the measures listed
below.
a. Does the portfolio contain all handouts,
worksheets, and projects that have been assigned over the course of the unit?
b.
Is all the work included in the portfolio completed?
c.
Is all of the work in the portfolio in a well-organized fashion?
d. Is all of the work included in the portfolio neatly done and legible?
What We Learned: Every three days, I will assess what the
students have learned from the lessons.
Initially, I will review the knowledge chart to determine whether the
children learned what they “wanted to know.”
We will also review what they have learned so far by asking the students
to respond by discussing what they feel they have learned.

In my thematic unit, teachers’
self-evaluation will constantly take place.
This will be accomplished through a series of questions.
1. Did I meet our objectives?
2. Did I motivate the students?
3. Was the content mastered?
4. Did the students acquire the skills needed?
5. Was the time correct?
6. Did the students understand?
7. Did I respond to their questions
sufficiently?
8. Did the activities work well?

To allow students to assess themselves, they
will complete a checklist following every three days. The checklist will consist of a series of statements of which the
children will complete based upon their own opinions of their personal
performance in class for each day. This
checklist will not be part of their grade.
1. I behaved in class this week.
2. I listened while others were speaking.
3. I followed the teacher's directions well.
4. I completed all my assigned work.
5. I did my best.
6. What I liked best was?
